Renowned undersea explorer Bob Ballard heads the Center at the Graduate School of Oceanography. With cutting-edge equipment and technology funded through the campaign, the Center will be to underwater investigations what Houston is to space exploration. The distinguished Pell Library will be expanded and reconfigured to offer state-of-the-art information resources.
The exciting new Center (opened spring, 2009) will enhance URI professors’ and students’ leading-edge research in a wide range of life science areas, including human diseases, plants, animals, and the environment. The Center will also be a principal catalyst for converting new knowledge into new businesses and new, high-paying job opportunities in the biotechnology sector.
The College of Pharmacy is currently housed in Fogarty Hall, which was completed in 1964 when the pharmacy program had just 150 students. With enrollment now in excess of 580 students, the college needs a new building to accommodate its growing student body. State-of-the-art facilities in the new building will ensure that the program and its graduates stay competitive in the growing field of pharmacy. Construction on this $75 million building commenced in the fall of 2009.
The Student Athlete Development Center will provide state-of-the-art facilities to address needs related to strength & conditioning, sports medicine, and academic support for all varsity student-athletes. These areas are vital to helping our student-athletes achieve at the highest level and to help our coaches recruit student-athletes that will make all alumni, fans and friends proud.
This Center will provide a “home” for international students and professors who come to URI to study, teach, and conduct research. Students and faculty from all nationalities will use the Center to share and learn about each others’ cultures.
The University will create a Wellness Center that will provide an on-campus space for students to gather, exercise, revitalize, and relax, enhancing the overall academic experience on the Kingston campus.
