Susan D. G. Warford of Wakefield,
Coordinator, Child Development Center,
College of Human Sciences and Services,
winner of the Administrative Excellence
Award for creating a setting to promote
exploration, learning, and caring relationships
among children, teachers and families.
A colleague commented that she "is not
only bright, personable and knowledgeable,
she is (also) an amazing administrator.
From the outside, it looks effortless!"
Linda M. Welters, Ph.D. of Wakefield,
Professor of Textiles and Fashion Merchandising
& Design, College of Human Sciences &
Services, winner of the Scholarly Excellence
Award. Linda has received two national-level
awards for her scholarship in 2002 as
well as a Fellow of the Historic Costume
Society of America. Her published materials
(four books, 32 journal articles, and
numerous other pieces) have made a significant
contribution to the study of dress.
Kathleen A. Craig of Narragansett,
Information Technologist, Enrollment Services,
winner of the Staff Excellence Award.
Kathy embodies customer service in her
very essence and her work ethic and diligence
are unmatchable. Kathy is the backbone
of a variety of URI offices. "Her sense
of humor and steady temperament are amazingly
calming, no matter how busy it is or how
many students are waiting for services."
Arthur C. Mead, Ph.D. of Newport,
Professor of Economics, College of Arts
and Sciences, winner of the Teaching Excellence
Award for his never-ending interaction
with students and for inspiring the students
around him. One student noted, "His classroom
goal is to not only have his students
master the economics material, but also
to open their eyes to the world around
them and teach real life skills."
