The Students First Fund

Emergencies and unexpected events can create financial difficulties for students – difficulties that could affect them personally and academically. The Students First Fund has been created by the Division of Student Affairs to assist enrolled University of Rhode Island students facing a financial emergency or challenge, including tuition-related expenses. Through private donations, the Students First Fund assists URI students by providing immediate financial support when they need assistance with emergency expenses surrounding situations such as accidents, illness, death of a family member, fire damage or need for temporary housing. The fund may also assist students who require support relating to an unexpected academic need or opportunity.

How it works

If you are a student facing a difficult situation, and you have exhausted all other resources, you are encouraged to submit a request for assistance to the Division of Student Affairs. Your request will be considered in a timely manner and an appropriate funding amount will be determined. Applicants may be required to meet with a staff member in the Division of Student Affairs. This funding is not intended to replace or supplement existing financial aid and does not have to be repaid.

Contribute to the Students First Fund

Your gifts to this student-centered fund make a significant impact at a critical time for students facing difficulties and crisis.  The goal of the fund is to keep students in school and on their academic path, even in the face of adversity.  Providing support of these students goes a long way financially and also provides moral support at a time when it's most needed.
